The South African giraffe population is estimated to be between 21,053 and 26,919 individuals, with about half residing on private land, according to Wildlife Ranching South Africa. This population has experienced a significant increase of 150-250% over the last three giraffe generations (around 30 years). While the IUCN Red List previously classified them as Vulnerable in 2016, they are now considered to be on the increase and could be reclassified as Least Concern.
